Introducing students to live theater through our school shows is often the way we spark interest in some of our youngest performers. CMT offers exclusive performances for our holiday/winter shows for students to enrich them with all of the magic musical theater has to offer. If you are interested in bringing your school, class, or daycares to one of our school shows please refer to the information below. We would love to have you!
School Show pricing: $10.00
Performances are held at the Fresno Memorial Auditorium Theater | 2425 Fresno Street across the street from the Fresno Water Tower. All seating is general, based on a first come-first served basis. Audience members with special needs, please specify at the time of reservations. Ticket sales are non-refundable once reserved. The number in your group reservation CANNOT BE REDUCED after sign up. If seats are available, you may be able to add to your number. Contact us to confirm. Each school is responsible for making its own transportation arrangements. While cancellations and refunds are not permitted, we understand that things come up (that Fresno Fog for example) that may prevent your school from attending as scheduled. If that is the case, CMT will offer two summer show ticket vouchers to each student affected. Expect an email approximately two weeks prior to show date with further arrival instructions.

Matilda The Musical

Age Appropriateness
Matilda the Musical is a family-friendly musical based on the beloved story by Roald Dahl. The production is generally appropriate for elementary through high school students; however, educators are encouraged to consider the maturity and sensitivity of their individual students when determining whether the performance is appropriate for their group.
The story includes themes of bullying, unfair treatment by adults, difficult family relationships, and children standing up to intimidating authority figures. Miss Trunchbull is intentionally exaggerated and comically frightening, and some scenes include threats, yelling, and humorous references to punishment. There are also references to neglectful parenting and characters occasionally use mild insults or name-calling.
These elements are presented in a theatrical, comedic, and fantastical manner rather than realistically. Ultimately, Matilda carries positive messages about courage, kindness, friendship, resilience, the importance of education, and finding the confidence to stand up for yourself and others.
We encourage teachers and school administrators to review these themes when deciding whether the production is a good fit for their students. Children’s Musical Theaterworks welcomes students of many ages to our school performances, but the final decision regarding age and developmental appropriateness is best made by each school and its educators.
